Why Drainage Matters on Flat Roofs
“Flat” roofs aren’t truly flat, they need a controlled slope so water moves to drains instead of sitting on the surface. Ponding accelerates membrane wear, stresses seams, invites biological growth, and can lead to leaks. The fix isn’t just a new layer of material; it’s a system that shapes water flow and protects every penetration and transition.
Our Drainage-First Approach
Assessment & Design: We map existing low spots, deck deflection, and drain locations. Then we design a taper plan (¼″ per foot target where feasible) that directs water to scuppers or internal drains.
Substrate Prep & Repairs: We demo failing material, check deck integrity, replace compromised sheathing, and ensure the surface is clean, dry, and ready for adhesion or mechanical fastening.
Tapered Insulation System: We install tapered ISO boards to build slope, plus crickets and saddles behind units and along parapets to eliminate dead spots.
Membrane & Seams: Depending on spec (TPO/PVC/Mod-Bit), we use manufacturer-approved welding or adhesive methods. Seam integrity is verified as we go.
Edge Metals & Flashing: New edge metal, scuppers, and overflow details are installed to spec. We flash around HVAC stands, pipes, skylights, and parapet walls using pre-formed accessories or custom-fabricated solutions.
Drains & Terminations: We reset or replace primary drains, add strainers, and confirm positive flow. Terminations are sealed and reinforced at walls and transitions.
Quality Control & Water Test: Final walk-through checks seams, penetrations, edge terminations, and flow paths. When appropriate, we perform a controlled flow check to confirm drainage.

Introduction and Problem Assessment
Morning guys. Georgia Rescue Roofing here. Hope you guys are enjoying the beautiful weather. We just want to give you a breakdown of this flat deck and what we're doing with it. When we started here, this roof had 0-12 pitch, meaning it could not shed the water properly from the roof. Continuously pulling up. Notice all the rotten wood throughout.
Installation Process
So what we're going to be doing is installing this new tapered modified system. This will give the roof the proper pitch needed to shed water. Five fasteners per panel. You can kind of see how I have it laid out here a little bit how it's installed. Got our base sheet here.
All peeling stick as you can see. Lay that bad boy down. Drip edge is next. Final sheet of modified. As you can see, peeling stick as well. Comes in various colors. Tap it over like so. And you're ready to rock. By this building up of the insulation, we'll get the proper pitch needed to shed that water.
